Making Successful Extension of Time Claims
We are pleased to invite you to this seminar which will discuss the practicalities of extension of time and prolongation claims.
Our speakers, with extensive exposure to the complexities of construction project management and managing delay claims, will share their experience and explore the factual and legal basis for making and assessing extension of time claims.
Nick Longley, Partner of HFW, will discuss two recent decisions in Australia and England which provide some clarity of the judicial approach to the prevention principle. He will also discuss some recent practical experiences in setting 'the rules' for delay analysis in dispute proceedings.
Karen Wenham, Director of Diales, will look at a case study of a project which incurred both delay and loss of productivity. She will demonstrate how the time chainage method of project planning can be used to demonstrate and quantify the impact of issues arising from deviations from tender planning assumptions, latent conditions and variation works, on the project schedule and completion milestones.

SoCLA Video Conference with John Murray AM
The Society is pleased to host John Murray AM. He will speak to our members on his final report on the security of payment laws (publicly released on 21 May 2018). The report is the culmination of more than a year long process and makes 86 recommendations.
He will summarise his recommendations and explain his thinking on key areas.
Mr Murray will present live in Melbourne, with his presentation being video-streamed to venues in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

In 2018 the Commonwealth Parliament will pass a Modern Slavery Act requiring businesses with a certain turnover (presently anticipated as being $100m per annum) to audit and annually report to the Australian government on their supply chains, ensuring that there are no aspects of slavery or labour exploitation practices within. The construction industry is a key area of concern because of its sometimes lengthy and intricate supply chains, particularly in relation to building materials. The audit and compliance processes are quite extensive and require very specialised skill sets in a human rights and organisational auditing framework.
We invite you to join us for an evening seminar to learn more about this very significant change in law and business practices and the implications for your business.
