The Warren Centre FSE Special Report to the ABCB

The “Comparison of FSE Guidance Documents and Assessment Criteria” Report from the Warren Centre.   This Special Report to the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is in addition to the eight other main research reports in The Warren Centre’s Professionalisation of Fire Safety Engineering research series.

This report was specially commissioned by the ABCB to answer questions about various international design guidance documents used by Fire Safety Engineers in Australia.  These guides are: CIBSE Guide E; ISO23932-1:2018; BS7974 (2019); and the SFPE engineering guide. Each of the documents is different, and none of the four guides met all the Assessment Criteria. Despite the fact that there are three criteria that BS7974 does not achieve, the authors concluded that BS7974 appears to be the most appropriate for adoption in Australia if one single document were to be chosen.
