On the Agenda
The Victorian Security of Payment reforms that commenced on 15 April 2026 represent the most significant changes to the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2002 (Vic) in years. The amendments have expanded the scope of payment claims, introduced a new statutory regime for the release of bank guarantees and retention money, altered notice requirements, and increased the importance of payment schedules and early dispute management.
Six months on, what impact are these reforms actually having on projects?
Bringing together legal, head contractor and subcontractor perspectives, this panel will move beyond a technical analysis of the legislation to examine how the reforms are operating on live projects across Victoria. The discussion will explore the practical challenges, emerging trends and unintended consequences arising under the new regime. Attendees will gain practical insights into how industry participants are adapting to Victoria's evolving security of payment landscape, and the steps they can take to minimise risk and avoid costly disputes.
