The Green Future is Upon Us (Brisbane)

Ashley Brinson of Brinson and Associates, Shirleen Kirk, Managing Associate of Allens and Laina Chan, counsel will discuss the future of Renewable Energy generation in Australia.

  •  Legal, contractual and practical recommendations to effectively manage risks that may arise during the execution of contracts
  • Key legal issues that parties, especially contractors, should consider prior to entering into contracts

The event will formally commence at 6:00 pm (registration from 5:30 pm with light refreshments). There will be time for attendees to ask questions at the conclusion of the discussion at 7:00 pm, followed by networking drinks.

Our Speakers

Ashley Brinson - Brinson and Associates

Ashley will provide a general overview of trends in global decarbonisation and renewables. He has delivered megaprojects from initial concept to ultimate operations with long-term assignments in America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Previous projects included several hydrogen systems, largescale silicon facilities linked to solar supply chains, and robotic systems for PV module manufacturing and solar array assembly.

Via Brinson and Associates consultancy and as a direct employee, Ashley has advised Sun Cable on megaproject challenges. In late September, creditors resolved to deregister the company following an assets sale to Grok Ventures.

Ashley is the former CEO and NED of PT Blink Ltd and former Executive Director of the Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering at University of Sydney. Ashley is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a NSW lawyer.
 

Shirleen Kirk – Managing Associate, Allens

Shirleen is a Managing Associate in Allens' Disputes and Investigations team in Sydney. Shirleen has a focus on disputes and regulatory issues arising in the construction, energy and redevelopment sectors, with a particular focus on the energy transition. Shirleen has extensive experience in court litigation, arbitration, expert determination and mediation across several jurisdictions. She has practised commercial litigation in London and Sydney, and was recently recognised in Doyle's Guide as a 'rising star' in construction law.

Laina Chan - counsel

Laina is the 2021 Lawyers Weekly, Women in Law barrister of the year.  She is the immediate past Chair of the Society of Construction Law Australia and the Vice Chair of the Australian Construction Industry Forum.

Laina practises in construction, property and insurance law. She is recognised as the distinct authority on the interplay between construction and insurance law.  

Laina is a widely published author on construction, property and insurance law. Her works are on the reading lists of many Universities, including the University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, the University of Queensland. Her book with JW Carter on “Contract and the Australian Consumer Law”, Federation Press, 2019, is a seminal work and examines how the Australian Consumer Law has modified the law of contract. In addition to regularly publishing in peer reviewed journals including the Insurance Law Journal, she is the LexisNexis author for the annotated Insurance Contract Act 1984 (Cth) and on the editorial panel of the Insurance Law Bulletin.
