Arbitration – Recent Developments and Key Tips / Traps – Perspectives from a Leading Arbitrator, Barrister, Solicitor and Expert
In honour of Arbitration Week, the Society of Construction Law Australia has arranged a very special event which will provide an opportunity for our members to hear from leading practitioners in the area including an arbitrator, barrister, solicitor and expert on recent developments and current issues and topics of interest in relation to arbitration in the construction industry.

Our experts will discuss recent developments and key tips and traps in arbitration from their various perspectives and will cover the following specific issues:
- Megan Calder (Partner, Piper Alderman, Melbourne) will discuss the drafting of arbitration clauses;
- Fiona Cameron (Barrister, Melbourne) will discuss arbitration vs. special references, following recent Supreme Court decisions in Victoria and Queensland; and
- Kate Grimley (Partner, Deloitte, Sydney) will discuss recent changes in evidentiary practices in arbitration and the potential implications of current economic uncertainty for arbitral awards;
- Andrew Robertson (Partner and Arbitrator, Piper Alderman, Adelaide) will discuss practical issues of running arbitration hearings, including challenges to an arbitral tribunal's jurisdiction and document management systems and remote hearings in arbitration;
This event will provide attendees with an opportunity to hear from a speaker in person at their relevant location in Adelaide, Melbourne or Sydney, and will also video-link to the other speakers located in the other locations.
This event will only be available to those who attend in person and will not be livestreamed or recorded.
The event will formally commence at 6pm AEDT / 5:30pm ACST and there will also be time at the end of the event for attendees to ask questions.
The event will also be followed by light refreshments and will provide attendees with an opportunity to network with fellow attendees who have an interest in the construction industry and construction law.
